Led by professional subtitler Clémence Sebag
This workshop will provide an introduction to the complexities of audio-visual translation. Students will learn key skills and approaches through work with a film excerpt where they will be faced with specific constraints such as reading speed, the two-line subtitle limit, and cueing to audio and shot changes. During the editing process they will have to make key decisions selecting the most important information whilst preserving the spirit of the original.
“I now know that translation isn’t just about translating from one language to another. It’s about interpreting intentions, actions, movements, facial expressions, tone of voice and register.”– Student, UCS
