Led by translator and social researcher Gitanjali Patel
Students will broaden their ideas about what it means to be a linguist by drawing on their existing language skills to translate a text from Portuguese with no previous knowledge of the language. Taking for its texts a range of Brazilian films and telenovelas, this workshop naturally raises questions how we reflect a range of Brazilian cultural contexts in English, whilst maintaining the texture and feel of the language.
“I really enjoyed the workshop It’s all Portuguese to us!, as I could make logical connections through my knowledge of other languages and be able to translate some text written in a language I had never looked at before. That was really empowering.”– Student, City of London School for Girls
